Managing NHS Capacity & ICB Guidelines
As you can imagine, we have been inundated with requests for NHS dental care across the region. While our goal is to care for as many patients as possible, we are currently required to follow the clinical allocation and prioritisation framework set by the Integrated Care Board (ICB).
We are continuing to work closely with the ICB to explore every opportunity for additional NHS provision so that we can expand access to as many residents as possible over time.
Current Appointment Prioritisation
In strict accordance with ICB guidelines, available appointments are currently being prioritised for:
- Patients experiencing acute dental pain or urgent dental problems
- Children aged 16 years old or younger
How to Book Urgent & Child appointments
To manage demand fairly and effectively, urgent appointments are released one week in advance. These can be booked online, by calling the practice team, or by visiting us in person.
Using our online booking system is the quickest and most effective way to secure an available slot, please use the ‘New Patient’ button at the top of this page.

Genix Healthcare offers Urgent Dental Access Centre (UDAC) appointments for patients who need urgent dental treatment.
What problems can the centre help me with?
You can use the centre if you have one or more of these urgent problems:
- Severe toothache causing persistent, intense pain that cannot be managed with over-the-counter painkillers.
- Dental abscess infections causing swelling, pain and possibly fever.
- Broken or knocked-out teeth.
- Bleeding in the mouth following a dental procedure or an injury that does not stop by itself but can be controlled. If bleeding cannot be controlled in any way, emergency care may be necessary.
- Swelling in the mouth or face that could be a sign of infection.
- Fractured, loose or displaced fillings causing pain.
- Severe bleeding from gums or acute conditions affecting other soft areas of the mouth (such as cheeks or tongue).
You cannot get routine dental care, such as a check-up, through this service.
Who can use the centre?
You can use the centre if you have one or more of the urgent problems above and:
- You are not currently receiving ongoing treatment from an NHS dentist.
- You cannot get an urgent appointment at a local high street NHS dentist.
How much does it cost?
Normal NHS charges and exemptions apply.

Out-of-hours urgent help
If you need urgent help out of hours, visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111.
An NHS 111 health advisor will talk to you about your needs. If you do not need help right away, they may give you advice on how to manage the problem until you can get an appointment.
If urgent care is required out of hours, the advisor may be able to arrange an appointment at an out-of-hours treatment service.
Most general hospitals do not have an on-call dental service, so you should use 111.nhs.uk or call 111 for emergency dental care.
